About MorningStar International


MorningStar International, Inc is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, located in Atlanta, GA. We offer comprehensive programs to better serve the youth and young adults in our communities. The programs and services are designed to cultivate, inspire, motivate, and encourage the youth ages 9-17 and young adults ages 18-21 to “Reach for the STAR within.” Our programs are College Empowered (College Preparation), Follow the Leader (Mentoring), and You Are the Millionaire Mind (Entrepreneurship). MorningStar International provides essential information and resources to assist the youth from different backgrounds and cultures to strive for excellence. Advancing the youth for the future is our goal. Our MorningStar Scholars (participants) must go through a 2 week orientation process “Renewing the Mind” before participating in any of the programs. MorningStar International, Inc. believes in having a positive impact on the young people because the youth is our future of tomorrow.  Being an organization of integrity, trust, accountability, respect, and commitment, we strive to see MorningStar scholars, staff, volunteers, and mentors rise to new levels in their life.


Our Mission is to improve the lives of youth and young adult by educating, inspiring and motivating them through our innovative and interactive programs/services. Designed to impact the total person, we emphasize the importance of embracing self integrity, effort, love, and commitment in making goals transpire. Helping our youth and young adults to advance in various communities, we are dedicated to prepare and position young people to “Reach for the Star within.”


Our vision is to be a global organization, helping to change the lives of youth in various communities by teaching and educating integrity, love, accountability, and commitment in seeing their academic/personal goals flourish.


Starr Allen-Founder/President

The CEO and Founder of MorningStar International, Inc., founded in 2008 in Decatur, GA. Starr, is originally from Detroit, MI, but she found her second home in Nashville, TN, where she attended Tennessee State University a Historically Black University. In Detroit she graduated from Murray-Wright High School through the accelerated program with honors. She received her Bachelors degree in Accounting in 2004 from TSU. During her undergraduate experience, she recognized that God had given her a vision to start an organization that will help impact people lives through education in college preparation, mentoring/life skills, and entrepreneurship. In December 2011, she is expecting to receive her MBA from Argosy University in Management. Having 11 years of experience in the education industry, she realized that her passion to educate was a need in the community. Working with many higher education colleges, she notice that she had a passion to help guide the youth and that she would use MorningStar as the vehicle to help people. Starr is currently residing in Stone Mountain, GA of where she is building relationships with organizations in the community to help empower the youth.

Dawn Sims-Vice President

A Detroit, Michigan native, Dawn Sims received her K-12 education in the Detroit Public School System. Reared on the east side of the city she graduated from Denby Technical & Preparatory High School; along with attending vocational school--completing the Academy of Finance two-year program. Migrating to Atlanta, Georgia she attended Clark Atlanta University (HBCU) where she majored in Accounting with a special interest in Auditing. Upon Dawn's completion at CAU she was recruited to enter Macy*s Assistant Buyer Trainee Program.
After gaining three years in the retail field as an Assistant Buyer she was intuitively lead to the wholesale side of the industry as a sales representative. With a host of on-the-job learning and development of an apparel brand Dawn took the grass roots lessons and applied it to spearheading her own unique apparel business-- "Ingenious Fashion Soulutions". Dawn is back in her native town Detroit where she presently works in both the Purchasing and Marketing fields along with actively working on behalf of MorningStar International, Inc.

Eric Hall-Board Chair

Eric D. Hall is a founding partner of WeResource, LLC an independent financial education and coaching firm founded in 2006. WeResource offer tailored workshops, training series, and coaching products and services to youth and adults who lack the knowledge and basic personal economics they need to make informed financial decisions. With a local and national footprint his work has made an impact in the lives of thousands of people from all walks of life. Through his instruction and mentoring, Business and Real Estate ownership has become a reality for many people, resulting in millions of dollars in revenue and property acquisition. He is the co-author of WeResource’s “Wealth Principles” and the co-author of “Staying Focus” In-Spite of the Circumstances. Eric D. Hall is also the owner of an international telecommunications company with business in eight states and two countries and growing. He has labored in the inner-city for more than ten years helping individuals make the most of themselves by discovering the potential they already possess.

Nylene Watson-Secretary

A native of Detroit, MI, she attended Detroit Public Schools and Wayne County Community College. She believes in educating the youth in the Detroit and Metropolitan area and is persistent in assisting MorningStar International in becoming a successful organization in the community. Currently, she holds the position as a Senior Payroll Personnel for the City of Detroit for 14 years and has dedicated her skills and expertise to the City of Detroit for 24 years. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, listening to music, solving puzzles and gardening.

Carol Studenka-Board Member

Carol Studenka is an educator. She taught for thirty years at Murray Wright High School in Detroit. Her goal for each of her students was to make them able to be fully prepared for the college life ahead. She wanted each of them to be aware of their own potentials and find a way to fulfill their dreams. She retired in 2003 to help take care of her husband and pursue her own interests. In 2008, they moved to Arizona and she began a new career as a Social Media manager for a small business in Sedona. Through this media, she has been able to keep in contact with past students, which has allowed her once again to find a way to continuing sharing her love of education with others, and pursue her goal of helping prepare young people for success with MorningStar International.

Shatica McDonald-Board Member

Shatica was born in raised in Detroit,   Michigan where s
he attended Detroit Public Schools, graduated Class Valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA, VP of the National Honor Society and received over $100,000 in scholarships and accolades.  Shatica graduated with Honors from Clark Atlanta University in May 2005 alongside actively giving back to the community.  She participated in many volunteer events geared towards the upliftment and encouragement of our youth.  She became a Junior Teacher to 11th & 3rd graders in the Atlanta Public School Systems during any free-time she could spare.  Her dedication to these efforts helped her to broaden her professional network and deepen her true passions for Mentoring & Giving Back.  Shatica, now a Health Care IT Consultant for Accenture, a prestigious global consulting firm, has excelled in her career and continues to swiftly climb the ladder to more success.  However,  Shatica would argue,  there is no greater success than that of putting a smile on someone else’s face,” thus she has become the MSI Michigan Office Board Director and dedicating all her efforts to ensuring our vision comes to fruition.

Jamar Marks-Board Member

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Jamar has dedicated his life to the field of education. He has a deep passion for the success and well being of others. He has experience in working with inner-city youth and has educated students in three different inner-city school districts. He is currently working in the DeKalb County School System in Georgia.

Kimberly Parmer-Board Member

Kimberly Parmer has always been involved in endeavors that help strengthen and empower her community. As a native of Atlanta, GA, Kimberly started out as a youth being involved in several community service projects. Although her profession is in the water/wastewater industry she has continued her community efforts by tutoring high school students, serving as a former member of the National Association of Black Engineers (NSBE), judging the NAACP Atlanta Branch Act-So Competition, working with her local church and past volunteer in Mayor Shirley Franklins Youth program. Kimberly’s quote: “Many people have empowered and encouraged me to become the person that I am today. What keeps me motivated is that I can only hope to come close to being that beacon of light for someone else.” Kimberly is the proud wife of Mr. Calvin Parmer from Buffalo, NY.
